Defendant Denied Bail in New Bedford Bar Triple Shooting Murder Case

NEW BEDFORD: A 19-year-old guy named Danielson Varela is in some serious trouble. He was held without bail after being charged with murder following a shooting at the Morna Lounge and Grill. This incident happened early Saturday morning and left one man dead and two women hurt.

Varela was arrested the next night and is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. The victim, Cristiano Macedo, was just 27 years old and sadly passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. The two women, both in their 20s, were treated for their injuries.

The police got the call about the shooting around 1:21 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found three victims. Macedo didn’t make it, but the women were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for care.

Interestingly, Varela has a history of previous charges, but those were all dismissed. He had been in trouble for things like discharging a firearm and property damage. It’s a bit concerning that he was already on the radar for such issues.

In a twist, there’s another murder case linked to the same bar. A different man, Anthony Jalo, is facing charges for a separate incident where he allegedly shot and robbed a victim outside the lounge. It seems like the Morna Lounge has been the scene of some serious crime lately.
