Richmond: So, there was a little shake-up in Richmond, Virginia, around 5:30 PM on Tuesday. A 2.8 magnitude earthquake hit, and it was centered in Wyndham, a nearby suburb.

Over 1,000 folks reported feeling it, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Thankfully, it was just a minor tremor, and no damage was reported.

Governor Glenn Youngkin even chimed in, saying they’re checking in with local officials to see how things are. It’s not every day a governor has to deal with an earthquake in Virginia!

He tweeted about it, letting everyone know they’re on top of the situation. A 2.8 quake is considered weak, so it’s not likely to cause any real harm.

For some context, the strongest quake in Virginia was back in 2011, hitting 5.8 and causing quite a bit of damage. This one was much milder, so no worries there.

Seismologists say that while earthquakes are rare on the East Coast, they can be felt over a larger area compared to those on the West Coast. Just a little reminder that Mother Nature can surprise us!
